UTHealth Scientists Discover Way To Reverse Memory Loss In Animal Brain Cells

Few families in the U.S. are untouched by the ravages of Alzheimer’s Disease and/or other forms of dementia, the loss of cognitive functioning — thinking, remembering, and reasoning –and behavioral abilities, or don’t at least have acquaintances who have been. In most people with Alzheimer’s, the most common cause of dementia among older people, symptoms first appear after age 60. It is estimated that as many as 5.1 million Americans may have Alzheimer’s disease, a number expected to increase to 13.5 million by 2050. A recent report from King’s College in London predicted that over 115 million people across the globe will suffer from dementia by 2050, with direct and indirect costs of Alzheimer’s and other dementias amounting to more than $172 billion annually
