Methodist Hospital Research Institute, UK’s Swansea University Researchers Develop of Point of Care Diagnostics for Heart Disease Biomarkers

A joint venture has been initiated by The Methodist Hospital Research Institute in Texas and Swansea University, UK that promotes research and development of various cardiac biomarkers to decrease the rising trend of ischemic cardiac diseases and associated complications. The results of the program have led to key discoveries in point of care diagnostics for heart disease biomarkers.

UTHealth Researchers Link Inflammatory Processes to Parkinson’s Disease Cause and Progression

A team of researchers from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) have conducted a breakthrough study exploring the concept of inflammatory processes contributing to the occurrence and progression of Parkinson’s Disease (PD). By injecting a concentrated, single-dose inflammatory agent in an animal subject, the researchers discovered changes in brain tissue similar to those observed in the disease process of PD.

High disease rate among astronauts analyzed by University of Houston

Being an astronaut is a dream that strikes every young man, and many young women at some point in their lives. While these individuals are regarded as heroes and pioneers, they also suffer from a range of unusual maladies that are curiously specific to their job. The University of Houston Department of Health and Human Performance has taken an interest in the illnesses that seem to strike astronauts and have begun a study to determine why it is those that undergo space flight get sick.

Baylor’s Dr. Peter Hotez Outlines Economic Impact Of Chagas Disease In U.S.

Dr. Peter Hotez, dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and president of the Sabin Vaccine Institute, recently co-authored a first-of-its-kind study that measured the health and economic impact of Chagas disease, in hopes of raising awareness in the U.S..
