Texas Senate Passes CPRIT Reform Bill

dding to the fast-developing CPRIT story this week, the Texas legislature on Wednesday moved quickly to pass Senate Bill 149 in an effort to reform the embattled cancer research-funding organization before the end of this year’s legislative term. Sen. Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, who is the chairwoman of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee and the author of the Senate Bill, highlighted the fact that ”CPRIT isn’t the first agency to stumble and it won’t be the last,” but that ” . . .CPRIT must be held to a higher standard because its mission is so important.”

Oversight Committee Member’s CTNeT Concerns Suggest That Project Flaws Resulted In Failure

CPRIT Officials Cleared, But Investigation Still Aggressive

The ongoing story of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas is one that continues to have its ups and downs. It is almost like watching Days of our Lives, but in real time and with real consequences. Cancer is running rampant in our country, and everyone feels its effects sooner or later. A place like the CPRIT is a great way to continue research into preventative measures so that the menace of cancer can be minimized. However, when an investigation into the appropriation of $11 million in funds that the organization received through bonds is started, it can really mess up everything.
