HHMI Encourages Texas-Based National Teaching Program with $22.5 Million Award

In a White House ceremony on Monday that was part of a national effort to draw more science and math majors across the country into teaching, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) issued $22.5 million in awards aimed at expanding the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI). This initiative is Texas-based, and was formed in 2007 as a means of scaling up the UTeach Program, which began at the University of Texas at Austin in 1997.
