The MAGPIX instrument, a product of Austin, Texas-based Luminex Corporation, has received U.S. FDA clearance for its xTAG Gastrointestinal Pathogen Panel (xTAG GPP). This new U.S. FDA approved clinical assay will help healthcare professionals test for 11 common pathogens (bacterial, viral and parasitic) with one blood sample in patients suffering from gastroenteritis (that reportedly has a mortality rate of 17,000/ year and a hospitalization rate of 250,000 in United States alone).
